Letters from ISTE 2015: Tuesday
Greetings from #ISTE2015! This week, more than 20,000 educators, industry leaders, and general education technology gurus have descended upon the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia for the annual International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Conference. A few of the highlights so far:
- FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel presented about the growing need for students to have high-speed internet access at home as well as at school. It’s called the Homework Gap, and we’ll be writing more about it soon.
- The expo hall! Hundreds of vendors and thousands of educators are meeting face to face to learn, explore, and experiment with new tech tools.
- This morning’s keynote from Jack Gallagher, former teacher and current comedian, who spoke thoughtfully and with humor about his son Liam’s autism and how Liam has used animation software to personalize his own education.
- We met our friends from Newsela at Reading Terminal Market when we went to get some lunch. Rodel Teacher Council members love Newsela, so it was a treat to meet up with them in Philly.
