Few will argue that Delaware’s young children are the key to the state’s future prosperity. Today’s toddlers are tomorrow’s leaders, after all.

That’s why it’s so important to provide each child with the best start possible. During the first five years of life, our brains develop at lightning speed. The mental architecture we build during that window can create either a strong or weak foundation for all future learning. In fact, these years are so defining that they can predict later academic achievement and successes in life and career.

Together, the Delaware Early Childhood Council and the Office of Early Learning have much to share on the subject—but they want to hear from you, too.

Beginning on March 30 and continuing through April 1, the groups will hold a series of seven public community conversation across the state to discuss the current status and future priorities for the state’s early learning system. Attendees are encouraged to share their own ideas, experiences, and priorities for sustaining and growing Delaware’s early learning work.

Susan Perry-Manning, executive director of the Delaware Office of Early Learning, will provide an overview of accomplishments to date. Kathy Thornburg and Kim Means, the Early Learning Challenge federal technical assistants for Delaware, will moderate the focus group session.
