Delaware Parent Leadership Institute
The Delaware Parent Leadership Institute (DPLI) trains parents to better understand school achievement data so they can assist educators in making educational improvements. DPLI is open to all parents and caregivers of Delaware public school students who have demonstrated leadership potential and are interested in improving schools and enhancing academic achievement for all students. Since 2004, more than 100 parent leaders have graduated from the Institute and are now implementing projects that assist educators in raising student achievement.
The institute offers participants an exciting curriculum that:
- Provides information and data for parents to expand their roles in their children's education and in the larger education community.
- Motivates parents to assume leadership roles and provides training to help build their confidence.
- Increases parents' understanding of Delaware's standards-based education system and the requirements of schools and teachers.
A key element of DPLI is participants' commitment to design and carry out projects that will involve greater numbers of parents and have a lasting, positive impact on student achievement. Rodel staff members assist participants with their local activities, and graduates are brought together in county-wide groups to share their knowledge and experiences.
